Close Encounters of the 3rd Third Kind 2 ii Second Two 2nd

The conclusion of the Close Encounters of the Third Kind movie is completely ambiguous and enshrouded in mystery. We don't really have any clues as to what happens to Roy Neary after he enters the alien extraterrestrial mother space craft. The audience watches the ET star ship ascend into the sky, but we don't know if the extraterrestrials aliens are leaving Earth.

There's no way to know what type of contact Earthlings continued to have with the aliens extraterrestrials after the first contact from Close Encounters 1. It's possible the United States Government keeps the contact with the star entities a secret in order to avoid mass panic and the utter collapse of civilization since no one knows how the billions of people of our planet would react to the extraterrestrial alien reality as open disclosure.

As for Roy Neary, it seems Steven Spielberg intended for our imagination to create the ventures Roy had after the end of the Close Encounters film. Roy might have been taken to the alien extraterrestrial home world or hidden dimension or whatever place they're really from.

It's also not known why the extraterrestrials aliens chose Roy for special contact while they seemed to ignore the rest of Humanity and the ET entities appeared to be fascinated with Roy for some reason we can't comprehend. After all, we don't know for certain if the aliens extraterrestrials and Roy ever return to Earth again.

They might have left our world and gone back to their own existence because they accomplished their mission and have no further reasons for having contact with Humans in the future. The enigmatic unknowable fate and destiny of Roy Neary will probably never be explained to the fans of Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
